Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon

3mm core lesion

Spa 3 times weeks for 3 weeks, re scanned, showed filing in of core lesion .Re scan at 6 weeks showed core lesion gone and fibre alignment developing well. Walking in hand from week 3.

Suspensory Ligament

Core lesion in lateral branch. Fracture to splint bone.

Spa 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Scanned at 3 weeks. Fracture sight healing well, core lesion reduced greatly. Normal echogenicity at 6 weeks scan. Walking in hand from week 4.

Large Traumatic Wound

Wound above medial aspect of point of hock involving gastroc tendon.

Surgery to debride point of hock and remove debris. Leaving fist sized hole. Daily Spa treatment for 3 weeks, allowed good wound healing with no infection or production of exuberant granulation tissue. Spa 3 times a week for a further 2 weeks. The foal remained sound throughout.

Penetrating Wound

Wound above point of hock involving gastrocnemius tendon. Healed with adhesions and small septic focus. Surgery to debride lesion and breakdown adhesions.

Spa treatment immediately post operative, lead to minimal post op swelling and allowed good wound healing. Rehabilitation on horse walker for 2 weeks to reduce adhesion formation alongside spa treatment.

Wire Wound

Wound to dorsal hock and front of cannon bone.

Healing initially with large area of excessive granulation tissue and a very swollen leg. Spa 3 times a week for 2 weeks, treatment reduced the limb oedema within first week. Granulation tissue no longer exuberant, rapid epithelisation of wound edges, spa for a further 2 weeks 3 times a week.

Chronic Laminitis

Chronic Laminitis with 15% rotation of pedal bone, correctively shod for 3 months variable soundness with episodes of acute severe lameness.

Swelling and inflammation greatly reduced after 3 spa sessions.

First spa treatment gave an instant improvement with the pony walking sound. Spa daily for one week, then every other day for one week. Pony sound at walk and trot.
