INTRODUCING EQUISPA

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to those of you who may not be familiar with our facilities here in West Yorkshire. EquiSpa (Yorks), based at the Yorkshire Equine Clinic, is a long established veterinary, insurance & Charity supported facility.
The Equine Spa, the first of its kind in the North of England, has been developed & independently clinically proven to cater for a wide variety of lower leg injuries and disorders. Tendon injuries, fractures, wounds and post operative care can all be accommodated, using the Equine Spa either on its own, or to compliment other therapies. However, on its own it does provide a non-invasive and drug free approach.
Clinical Trials
Professor Evan Hunt, MVSc, PhD, GDip Ed (Tert.), focused the clinical trials on track & training injuries and over a 10 year period proved that a combination of cold water, aeration, salt and the unusually high level of oxygen in the water aid the healing process and achieve fast, long-term recovery.
The equine spa was first introduced into the UK in 2001 and after witnessing the Spa's amazing results first hand, EquiSpa (Yorks) believed that the opportunity to use this unique piece of hydrotherapy should be brought to trainers in the North. During the year in which the Spa has been in operation our highly trained staff have gained a wealth of experience in its use & application.
Spa Treatment
A single treatment lasts for 30 minutes, with all limbs being totally immersed in cold, salty, oxygenated water. This approach has proven to be the most effective form of cold therapy. Firstly, it eradicates inflammation rapidly, enabling fibre realignment to be achieved much quicker than traditionally experienced Secondly, our experience has shown that horses with certain types of tendon injury have shown normal ecogenicity when scanned after only three weeks.
Complemented with a good exercise programme, we have had horses returning to the track, eventing and hunting in just four months after initial injury, some recording many wins in the process.
